Safeguarding

This statement is about children and about adults who are less able to protect themselves from harm. This is how we try to keep them safe from harm at Asha:

God has created all people in his image and every person is valuable to God. God showed us how valuable we are to him by sending his son Jesus the Messiah into the world. Jesus came to cleanse us from our sin, to mend our relationship with God and to protect us from God’s coming judgment.

As God’s people, we want to remember that everyone is valuable. We recognise that it is the responsibility of the whole church to try to keep one another safe.  These are our commitments:

We commit ourselves to care for all our members and do all we can to keep them safe from harm. We especially want to protect our children and young people and those adults who are less able to protect themselves from harm.

We commit to take proper care when we appoint people to work with children or with adults who are less able to protect themselves from harm.  We commit to properly train and support those workers.

If there are concerns that a child or adult may have been harmed, we will respond without delay and will cooperate fully in any investigation.

We will challenge anyone in a position of trust who is abusing their power.

We will seek to offer care to anyone who has suffered abuse.

If any member of our church community is known to have offended against a child, young person or adult at risk, we will refer them to the proper authorities.  We will also carefully supervise them and support them when they are with us.
